Blazers May Ask Brandon Roy to Retire?!

This comes as a bit of a shock to me. Okay, not bit, but a huge shock. Take a look, from the Oregonian:

A source familiar with the situation said Thursday that Portland figures it must deal with Roy’s future if it’s truly going to rejoin the league’s contenders. Retirement for Roy is among the options they’re considering.

The Blazers know they hold the distinction of being the only team in the Western Conference that hasn’t won a first-round playoff series in the past 10 years. So they’re eager and acting with urgency.

It may save the team millions of dollars, but Roy was able to show up for the last two parts of the season. Forcing him retire will be a crazy option.

My guess is that they’ll either try trading him this off-season or trying actually using him and giving him the minutes like when he did in the series versus the Dallas Mavericks, where he came up big in and some of the games there. There, they could just ship him off at the trade deadline.

Another option has been out there that they could maybe trade him to the Chicago Bulls. Chi-Town is in need of a shooting guard and several rumors have been coming up of a possible trade for Carlos Boozer.

I guess we’ll see what happens, but an option of retirement is just flat-out absurd.
